2 Dope Boys in a Cadillac

More likely to be found trekking through the woods than cruising the streets rockin’ fly rims, 2 Dope Boys in a Cadillac are individually known as Johnny MacRae & shayne avec i grec. Together, MacRae and avec i grec have been a member of the 2005 Victoria slam team and the 2009 and 2010 Van Slam teams, as well as being a long time organizer of Victoria’s Tongues of Fire. They were also the 2010 Van Slam champion. Driving under the influence of Bob Holman’s tequila, these 2 Dope Boys have been described as “challenging,” and are said to “push envelopes wherever they are.”
Before re-discovering each other in the poetry community, this Aquemini duo grew up together, working in the pot fields of shayne’s uncle, in BC’s fabled Cadillac Mountains. As a result of the War on Drugs, Johnny and shayne were forced to flee from their idyllic, backwoods home and make their way to the west coast, where they resettled in Vancouver and Victoria, respectively. In contrast to their homes, the cities seemed rife with the decay of humanity – or what the folks back home called “the anthropocalypse” – and driven to speak out, Johnny and shayne reunited to tell their stories, and share old Cadillac Mountain folk wisdom with their more sophisticated, urban cousins.
